Excavating Memories of Forgotten History

Excavating with the Urban Archaeologist

Once upon a time, I was certified to teach Oklahoma History. I applied and interviewed for several opportunities in another universe, or so it seems. Unfortunately a love of history and a proper education does not always lead where you think you are heading. Life has taken me in other directions, but my love of history is a constant companion. There is something special about the exercise of excavating the memories of yesterday. Perhaps this is why I love capturing memories of today with a camera, too.

Friends of Old

Very few people go as far back in my personal history as the Urban Archaeologist, Brad Wynn. Memory says we go back to seventh grade, making him one of, if not the, earliest friends with whom I still interact. Outside of family, I am hard pressed to recall more than a handful of names going further back. Our paths have taken us different ways, but they consistently intersect from time to time. A cold root beer and bad puns are often involved.

Excavating Memories of Oklahoma City

Over a decade ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Brad as he signed copies of his first book publication. Another book followed just a couple of years later. He continues to dig into Oklahoma City history to this day in a variety of ways. If you know where to look, you might find hints of how his pursuits in this area have had an impact.

Take A Hike

Now, you can join Brad in excavating some forgotten memories. Enjoy a five-block exploration of the city with the gentleman who knows the area as well as anyone. The Urban Archeologist offers walking tours to explore the streets and alleys where history happened. Reserve your tour covering Film Row, the Chinese Underground, and Hell’s Half Acre, taking note to be properly prepared. Proper walking shoes, please!
