Pushing For Positive

Highway to Positive

From the national news to personal politics, negativity seems to be the rule of the day. I generally try to look on the bright side but it is all too easy for my mood to turn sour these days. As part of the building blocks I mentioned earlier this week, I am pushing for positive.

 At The Day Job

After fifteen years working in the same office, I am pushing for positive elsewhere. I am still with the same employer, but I  find myself pursuing new opportunities. Ultimately, this is a change for the better. I know I can have an immediate, positive impact within a group of people ready to make good things happen.

In My Personal Life

The changes at work coupled with personal challenges also have me pushing for positive. My family has grand plans. Even as it felt like things were falling apart, we have been dreaming of tomorrow. For most of our crazy schemes, it is likely just a matter of time and hard work. With every unexpected repair bill comes a chance to complain. At the same time, the most likely alternatives to those bills makes the actual outcome much better.

Being critical of one’s own work can be tough, but I see it as a springboard for improvement. I will continue to fine tune my work. That is without question. What about the rest of the industry? What can we do to push for positive change? This is the question that drove me to write this post. With all of the negativity in the world, I grow weary of seeing that mirrored in the local industry.

Photographers are blaming everyone and everything for what they feel is a collapsing industry. Rather than regale you with the details, I want to reach out to photographers, models, and others and ask one simple question: What can we, as an industry, do to be more positive about each other? I know there are a lot of trust issues and, in many cases, rightfully so. How do we overcome what is wrong and elevate what is right?
