Finally Taking Part In A Street Meet

Street Meet OK event

If you know me at all, you probably know I am not a fan of crowds. As far as photograph events go, if it involves a photographer horde and some models, I generally pass. My momma taught me to be polite and make sure everyone gets a turn. Even at some of the best conferences I have attended, put a few models in front of a few photographers and you get a rugby scrum. This is not my idea of fun. When invited to go to a Street Meet OK event, I balked.

Street Meet Bound

After the first dodged bullet, I thought I was in the clear. Then, another event and a conversation about going as a group with two good friends in the industry. This one was being held in Guthrie at the The Victor. The question was asked if we would meet there or drive up together. I made it clear that if we didn’t travel together, I’d find an excuse not to go. So, we made a plan and we made it happen.

General Overview

I’ll be brutally honest: The photographer scrum I expected absolutely happened. Despite the chaos, I managed to work with a few models and talk to a few people who were well worth the time. There were several models I saw but did not get a chance to shoot. Since the street meet, I have seen photos of many models that I had no clue were there at all. That is probably as much on me as anyone. I simply do not enjoy the crowded network event scene well.

Did I Miss You There?

If you were at the Street Meet OK event at The Victor and we didn’t get a chance to connect, I hope you will reach out. Assuming I can maintain a proper amount of motivation, I plan to attend more in the future. They are stressful, but they are a great way to meet new people. That is what I need to be doing at this point. There are simply too many great people out there I would otherwise never meet.
