Eyes On The Prize

Eyes On The Prize

She appears like clockwork, dragging her pink string into the room. In the morning, she brings it when she knows I’m about to brush my teeth. In the evening, there she is when bedtime approaches. Occasionally, she’ll bring it in when she thinks I have nothing better to do. She thinks that most of the time. Lately, she has taken to speaking her mind, letting me know in no uncertain terms that she is ready to play. Luna has her eyes on the prize.

Our beautiful Russian Blue is persistent. She is a social creature who wants attention and plenty of playtime. Her life is simple. Her goals clearly stated. Most importantly, she knows that she must act if she wants results. There are lessons to be learned from our feline companion.

Luna’s Eyes On The Prize

  • Stay well fed with plenty of water
  • Spend quality time with my humans
  • Exercise by playing with the pink string

Mark’s Eyes On The Prize

  • Stay well fed with plenty of water
  • Spend quality time with my humans
  • Exercise my mind by experimenting with my camera

Those are pretty much the same thing, right? If we keep it simple, yes. Therein lies the problem. I’m a stupid human who can’t keep it simple. Everything has to be far more complicated than the simple formula Desire + Fulfillment = Happiness. This is where I, and I expect a lot of you, get derailed. Let’s take a closer look.

Usually, when I set my mind to something, I triangulate instead of going straight towards the goal. I spend a lot of time examining how many ways things can go wrong. Instead, I should be setting my goal, identifying what needs to be done, and doing it. Sounds easy, but it never is.

Or is it?

The problem is that I am not dragging the string into the right room filled with the right people. Having my eyes on the prize is one thing. Knowing where that prize can be found is another one. Do you know what your prize is? Do you know where it can be found? Let’s do this.
