There was a time when I mindfully got up early on my days off to photograph. In the chilly, pre-dawn hours of winter, you might find me standing on a downtown street corner. Wildlife would see me hiking into the relative depths of a local park. Catching sunrise was always on the list, but I always had one or two other things in mind. On occasion, a model or another photographer (or both) would join me in this exercise. Now, with so much having changed the last couple of years, it may be time to pick up old routines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hard part is sacrificing an opportunity to sleep in, but that is becoming a thing of the past. The best I can do these days is about 6:30. If I get started when I first stir from sleep, there are plenty of opportunities. Usually, I can be out and back home before the family is ready to take on the day. In this instance, I am clearly my own boss. This can be a routine if I want it to be. Or it can be pure spontaneity. Heck, it doesn’t even need to be an early morning thing if I get properly inspired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first order of business is revisiting my old list of haunts. Second is discovering new places. Part of this journey includes road trips with my son. The photo accompanying today’s post was captured from the vantage point of one of Oklahoma’s many country roads. We can plan the route, but sunrise plans itself. This one made for a beautiful start to a fun drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
