Amidst the chaos of life, a measure of understanding emerges. One piece of a crazy world makes sense, if only for an instance. That momentary vision is then captured as art. A poem, painting, sculpture, or song is born.  Thus, the imagination becomes a light in the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have lived long enough to have seen my share of darkness. It is, admittedly, a mere, passing shadow compared to what many people experience. For that, I am thankful. I am doing far better than I deserve. It is this&#8230;realization?&#8230;that gives me strength when darkness falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of late, it seems there is darkness all around. Not in my personal life, but in those of people who pass through on their own busy paths. Among those who linger, from friends I have known for decades to those I met only this past year, I hear potentially life-shattering news. I see pain, agony, and trials I certainly do not desire to experience first-hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>To persevere is favorable  &#8211;  <em>I Ching<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting back on just the last couple of months, I have spoken to a lot of people who are either in or are recovering from a period of darkness that still threatens to swallow them whole. It can be frightening to consider where their paths may be leading. But in those conversations, one thing has continuously been made abundantly clear: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/the-empowerment-diary\/201703\/how-find-light-in-the-darkness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"There is Light in the Darkness (opens in a new tab)\">There is Light in the Darkness<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the most despondent have ended on a high note. They see their situation as dark today. They brace for the unexpected impact of their present troubles. Yet, they look past it all and try to see that distant point of light that beckons them. It isn&#8217;t easy, but they want to reach it. They may not even be aware of what it is they are reaching for, but they do know it is beyond their present pains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I cannot claim to have lived through whatever you face today. I can try to understand and I am certain to fall short. Your experience is unique, even to others who have gone through the same trials. It must be. It is because <em><strong>you<\/strong><\/em> are unique. There is no one like you and there never will be anyone like you ever again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope that someday I get a chance to meet you. Perchance, I&#8217;ll have the chance to capture a small bit of that special light and darkness that is your experience in this world.
